Teacher Education: events..call for submissions..a bursary…FE teacher review…latest from ESCalate

This year one of the priority areas of the JISC Regional Support Centre NW is to support Teacher Education in the post-compulsory sector across the North West region.

We’ve a range of activities underway to identify the ways that colleagues would value support and to understand the demands placed on this sector…  The aim is that this will lead us to providing staff development opportunities, developing and supporting activities, gathering and sharing resources, networking and connecting together…

I shall highlight teacher education focussed issues separately within this blog – but of course there will be many postings that apply to teacher educators that apply to anyone working in HE in FE.
 Here goes!

 Hewitt/Driver Action Research bursary
available to IfL members – see more information.  Bursaries of £1,000 available

The Teacher Education Advancement Network (TEAN) looks really worth keeping your eye on – even if you can’t make the events they put on, there are some useful-looking archives from past events on their site and some handy links to resources.
I’m just checking out how much their focus is on compulsory education…
Meantime there are
Two events coming up – and one call for submissions

The important role of Higher Education in Teacher Education  conference  Submission deadline 21st January 2011.  Conference May 20th, 2011, Manchester

Latest ESCalate bulletin – for October (ESCalate is the HEA subject centre for education).  Some excellent links to a paper on Critical and reflective practice and to an IfL Guide on CPD – IfL2010-BrilliantTeachingAndTrainingGuide[1]

And finally for now:
There’s a review of teacher, tutor and trainer qualifications for the FE sector that’s just started.  Want something changed?  The first phase of the review gives you opportunity to have your say.  See the LLUK site.
